Tush Tuneup

Brewster, NY

Westchester County Cyclists ride from Brewster, NY to Great Barrington, Mass and back on Sunday April 30th

Tush Tune-up 2006
("Lilacs, Llamas and Longhorns")

The TUSH  TUNE-UP, the club's annual spring two day weekend event that kicks off the official club riding season, will be held the weekend of April 29 - 30 . This year we're  pedaling up to Great Barrington, Mass. The ride starts at the Brewster North (Northeast) railroad parking lot.  We pedaled much of this route last May and were astonished to an abundance of lilacs, a group
of longhorn bulls and a gathering of llamas along the way. We resolved to do it again this year as the Tush. While it may be too early in the season for the lilacs, we are sure to see the longhorns and llamas again. We'll be staying at the Day's Inn in Great Barrington which is within walking distance of restaurants.
The first day's ride is 69 miles and the return ride is about 76 miles with some challenging hills towards the end.

For the Tush newbies: The Tush is a carry your own gear ride which starts from a location in or near Westchester on a Saturday morning and returns the following day. Some riders use panniers and some just pack lightly, cramming everything they need into a small bike bag. There is no sag and no official ride leader. You ride at your own pace ride and riders usually find at least
one person who rides at their pace. The ride is suitable for A, B and strong C riders.  The Tush is not a race and there are no prizes for the first person to finish the ride. It's an early season TOUR to tune up our you-know-whats! Tush newbies are encouraged to join us on this fun-filled adventure. Non-riding friends are welcome to join us in the evening. Every year a really great time is had by all on this ride.

The rooms at the Day's Inn Motel (413)528-3180 are $79 plus tax based on double occupancy. Each room has 2 double beds.  If you plan to come call us or send us an email to let us know you are coming.  Then call the motel directly and ask them for one of the rooms set aside for Stu Shakman of the Westchester Cycle Club If you are looking for a roommate let us know and we' ll try to put people together.

To get to the Brewster railroad station take I 684 north to I 84 West (towards Newburgh). Then  get off at exit 19(route 12, Carmel) and follow signs to RR station(at the end of the exit ramp you will make a right turn over I 84 and then an immediate left at the traffic light)   Call us if you want to try to arrange car pooling.

This is the 14th annual Tush Tune-up. This great WCC tradition was started in 1992 by Linda Ammann.
